Provera: A contract from rally to rally
Rovanperä starts his season 2004 in the Mexican rally
(text updated 14 th Feb. 2004)
Harri Rovanperä and Risto Pietiläinen will start their 2004 season in
the Mexican Rally. One day after the Rally of Sweden, Harri Rovanperä
confirmed that he has made an agreement with Peugeot on driving the
team’s second car in the World Championship Rally of Mexico. The
season’s third WRC-round will be competed in Mexico from 12th to 14th
March. The Mexican rally is one of the two new events in the 16-round
WRC-series, together with the Rally of Japan in September.
- As far as I know, the possibility of us participating in some other WRC-
rallies as well has been discussed, but let’s drive in Mexico first, co-driver
Risto Pietiläinen put it in Sardinia on Monday, February 9th.
Rovanperä was in Italy testing the Peugeot 307 WRC,
with which he had already made acquaintance in October last year.
Peugeot will run only two cars in Mexico, with Marcus Grönholm and Harri
Rovanperä behind the wheel. Rovanperä and Pietiläinen have some
previous experience of the Mexican rally, as they took the win there in
2002 when the rally was a candidate for the WRC-series.
- This time the winning margin will hardly be one hour like last time, a
pleased Pietiläinen was joking in the middle of the busy testing session.
