Rovanperä and Pietiläinen are the winners on the Rally Costa Smeralda

The Finnish crew was at the head of the race during the half of the first stage. To the honour position there is Andrea Navarra (Subaru Impreza WRC) and third is Gianluigi Galli (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VII), the winner of the Group N.

The Finn couple Harri Rovanperä and Risto Pietilanen with Peugeot 206
WRC by Grifone Rally Team, are the winners of this Rally Costa
Smeralda.

The race is valid for the penultimate appointment of the Italian Rally
Championship, the Italian Gravel series on (the fifth stage of eight races)
and the European Championship coeff. 5. Two days of great sport, 16
stages, the first leg with unknown stages, new for all the drivers. On
Thursday night the Finns have started with a bad performance, because
they had some problems to the turbine, final time about 44” from Andrea
Navarra (Subaru Impreza WRC), that he made a big attack, thanks to his
long experience. In two times the different drivers leaded the way, has
been a tough challenge, at the end Navarra has arrived in the second
overall.

Until the fourth SS of the first leg Andrea Navarra was at the head of the
race, but later on in the fifth SS he had a small crash with a punctured and
one broken lever of the suspension, so he lost about 30”, and the
leadership has surrendered to the Greek Aris Vovos (Peugeot 206 WRC).
This last one during the sixth stage went off and so Rovanpera was free
to conquer the leadership, also on Saturday he has defended against
the Navarra’s attacks.

FINAL RESULT: 1. Rovanperä-Pietiläinen (Peugeot 206 WRC) to
2:20’47”4; 2. Navarra – Fedeli (Subaru Impreza WRC) to 53”0; 3. Galli-
